Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Online Board Review 2023

Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Online Board Review provides the internist and cardiologist with an overview of all aspects of cardiovascular medicine. Well-known experts in each field will give in-depth didactic presentations on state-of-the-art subjects in cardiovascular medicine. This review course is designed specifically to prepare the cardiovascular specialist for the cardiovascular boards and/or recertification.
  • This course will also provide the internist or practicing cardiologist with an update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.  The Echo Focus Session is part of the enduring program as well. Please Note: The Echo Focus portion is “bonus” material and not intended for use for studying for the boards.
  • The Cardiovascular Online Board Review course is delivered through an online personalized learning gateway enabling learners to take a pre-assessment to identify areas of strength and weakness and then directing their learning with a personalized study guide that concentrates solely on areas where they need reinforcement. Learners can view videos from the live/livestream course, listen to streaming audio presentations, review learning objectives, journal citations, articles and guidelines and board pearls, take notes on PowerPoint presentations, take pre- and post-assessments, practice coding exams, and more.

Date of Original Release: December 12, 2023

Course Learning Objectives

Below is a sampling of the Cardiovascular Board Review for Initial Certification and Recertification course objectives.  Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of restrictive and other non-dilated cardiomyopathies and use this information to effectively diagnose and manage patients.
  • VALVULAR DISEASE:
  • Identify venous thromboembolism (VTE), incorporating the pre-test probability of VTE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnose venous thromboembolism (VTE), incorporating the pre-test probability of VTE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • Select appropriate management of venous thromboembolism (VTE), incorporating the pre-test probability of VTE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • VALVULAR DISEASE:
  • Identify pulmonary embolism (PE), incorporating the pre-test probability of PE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnose pulmonary embolism (PE), incorporating the pre-test probability of PE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • Select appropriate management of pulmonary embolism (PE), incorporating the pre-test probability of PE based on clinical presentation and initial diagnostic testing.
  • CAD:
  • Identify cardiovascular disease risk factors in patients without known CAD.
  • Determine the risk of future coronary events in patients without known CAD.
  • ARRYTHMIAS:
  • Classify antiarrhythmic agents according to mechanisms of action.
  • Choose appropriate antiarrhythmic agents for specific patients with cardiovascular arrhythmias.
  • CONGENITAL:
  • Specify the physiologic changes that occur with pregnancy.
  • Echo Focus Session Learning Objectives
  • Utilize Echo and Doppler information for management of patients with various cardiovascular
    conditions.
  • Identify new echocardiographic modalities for clinical use such as tissue Doppler and strain imaging.
  • Recognize common and unusual cardiovascular conditions confidently by echocardiography.
Target Audience
  • This enduring program is designed for, but not limited to, cardiologists, cardiovascular fellows, and general internists. Although this program is designed specifically to prepare the cardiovascular specialist for the cardiovascular boards and/or recertification, it will also provide the practicing cardiologist or internist with an update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.
