Course Description
USCAP From the Internet to In-Person: Surgical Pathology Cases from Six Social Media Educators 2024 Social media has emerged as a powerful tool in pathology education worldwide, but in-person teaching at the microscope remains the cornerstone of sharing knowledge, insight, and experience.

This interactive microscopy course will provide key updates in the daily practice of surgical pathology from six proven educators. Topics will include molecular testing of bone, soft tissue, thyroid, and endometrial neoplasms; histologic distinction of difficult appendiceal, thoracic, mesenchymal, head and neck, and endocrine lesions; best practices in thoracic frozen section evaluation; and proper workup of limited material in gastrointestinal, thyroid, bladder, and renal samples.

Target AudiencePracticing academic and community pathologists, and pathologists-in-training

Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:
  • Appreciate subtle gross and histologic clues to resolve differential diagnoses for appendiceal mucinous lesions.
  • Use histologic features to guide selection of immunohistochemical markers and genetic studies to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis of bone and soft tissue tumors.
  • Synthesize histologic features with ancillary findings to optimize recognition of clinically meaningful gynecologic cancers with molecular signatures.
  • Recognize key scenarios in which thoracic sections are performed, key histopathologic findings in these scenarios, and how to word the frozen section report in order to effectuate optimal intraoperative management.
